NASA RFI for Scientific Data and Computing Architecture to Support Open Science

Kaitlin Harbeck February 2, 2023

Following up on our presentation in January surrounding the federal government's Year of Open Science initiative, we wanted to advertise that NASA's Science Mission Directorate is soliciting information via an RFI about user needs for scientific data and computing as we move into the year of open science.  Open-Source Science is NASA’s approach for facilitating the adoption of open science practices within NASA and across the broad communities that we support.  We’ve heard a lot of concerns and questions from our cryospheric sciences community about how to handle the additional costs/resources required to comply with NASA’s new open science policies (found in SPD-41a), so this is your opportunity to provide input back to SMD about the challenges that you may face as a PI, and the opportunities that you see moving forward in this more open environment.

The information you as respondents provide will be used to help inform NASA's SMD and each of its scientific divisions about how best to support SMD-funded scientific activities.  The RFI is open to all!  All responses must be received by 11:59pm ET on February 21, 2023 in order to be considered.
