A Climate Change Jamboree for US Federal Social Scientists

Libby Larson December 7, 2021

Dear Colleagues,

We are writing today because you have been identified as a social scientist or a member or leader of a group committed to federal social science. We are hoping to gauge your (and/or relevant members of your group) interest and availability to attend a “Jamboree” for US Federal social scientists working in the climate change arena, hosted by the US Global Change Research Program (USGCRP). Many social scientists working on these topics spend substantial time engaging with natural scientists building interdisciplinary teams, but we feel there is also much to be gained from networking among social scientists to share opportunities, insights, and awareness of programmatic activities.

We haven’t yet finalized the Jamboree structure, as it depends on the number and interests of attendees, but we envision organizing one or two 2- to 3-hour virtual sessions that will allow participants to share their work and speed-network for follow up conversations. We also anticipate including discussions to summarize the research needs and capabilities envisioned by federal climate-engaged social scientists.

We are hoping to schedule the sessions for late February. Would you be interested in attending this Federal-only (appropriate contractors included) Jamboree? If so, please fill out the information in this google form. Additionally, if you know others who might be interested in attending, please feel free to forward this note.
