Arctic coastal communities are impacted by changing and intensifying coastal hazards, and communities and agencies are rising to the challenge. In this meeting, we discussed the erosion hazard and how the mechanism of erosion appears to be shifting in Arctic Alaska. Next, the response of the North Slope Borough and its communities to the intensifying hazards were described. We concluded with a presentation of the Utqiagvik Seawall, with a particular focus on the design features to address ice impacts and thermal erosion.
