Airborne field observations are critical for improving our scientific understanding of Arctic processes and informing model representations of those processes. It is useful to think about how to best connect field observations with models before, during, and after those campaigns. In this session, we heard about two Arctic airborne field campaigns – CAESAR, which occurred in 2024 and focused on marine boundary layer clouds during cold air outbreaks and Snow4Flow, which is in the planning stages and focuses on Northern Hemisphere glaciers. Paquita Zuidema (U. Miami) presented early results from CAESAR and discussed how the CAESAR observations are starting to be used by the modeling community. Lauren Andrews ( ) presented goals and plans for Snow4Flow and discussed how data-model integration is being considered in the campaign planning.
