The goal of the March 2026 joint Physical Oceanography & Sea Ice Community of Practice meeting was to share information on recent sea-ice modeling and ice thickness evaluation developments. Our featured speakers:

  • Provided a window on E3SM’s current and planned global model developments using AI, high resolution, and embedded Lagrangian fully coupled cryospheric modeling based on a scientific background from a range of measurements and models.

  • Highlighted a recent study evaluating sea ice simulations from the Coupled Model Intercomparison Project Phase 6 (CMIP6) using modern-era satellite measurements of sea ice thickness, freeboards.
