Meeting Goal
The Technology Innovation and Application Foundational Area Collaboration Team (Tech Team) was established in recognition of the foundational role of technology in Arctic (and Polar) research. The Tech Team is currently conducting a survey of technology leaders across government, private, and academic sectors. At this meeting, we welcome Philip A. McGillivary as a leading Arctic Technology practitioner to give the Tech Team a broad overview on Arctic Research Technology, and insights that he can share from his tenure with the U.S. Coast Guard. Philip previously contributed to the 2020 Polar Technology Conference on “Documenting High Latitude System Dynamics: New Technologies for Persistent Monitoring of Critical Parameters at Appropriate Time-Space Scales,” and more recently he presented at the Fall meeting on “New Capabilities for Polar Ocean & Sea Ice Studies: New Subsea Technologies for Navigation, Positioning and Timing (NPT), Subsurface Energy Harvesting Systems for AUVs, Quantum Sensors and Quantum Communication.” Philip’s work contributes to U.S. Coast Guard’s Arctic operations and more recently to the Maritime Action Plan required under the Presidential Administration’s executive order on Restoring America’s Maritime Dominance.
