This webinar series, hosted by the Risks team, aims to A) connect the community engaged in developing tools and also datasets to support communities affected by hazard, and B) identify opportunities in tools and data development.
We have more satellite imagery data than what we know what to do with and, simultaneously, Alaska is starving for basic geospatial information about its landscape and infrastructure. The Permafrost Discovery Gateway is an online and free webtool meant to empower researchers to produce and use big geospatial products (think sub-meter resolution maps across Alaska and the entire Arctic) and to empower agencies and community leaders by offering access to helpful information for management that involves permafrost. Permafrost affects everyone in Alaska, even if you are not directly living on it, and everyone in our country too. This webinar discussed how the Arctic research community is about to monitor permafrost thaw near-real time and how we are building tools so that you can explore and use the big data too, no matter your financial or technical resources.
