DESCRIPTION:Hazard Identification & Mitigation feedback loop from the Emergency Management perspective: Risks Collaboration Team Feb 2026 Meeting Feb 19, 2026 3 - 4 pm Eastern Standard Time This webinar series, hosted by the Risks team, aims to A) connect the community engaged in developing tools and also datasets to support communities affected by hazard, and B) identify opportunities in tools and data development. Photo: Jonathan M. Lettow via AP Our presenter was Eric Mohrmann, an Emergency Management Specialist with the Matanuska-Susitna Borough. Eric shared information on the Threat and Hazard Identification and Risk Assessment (THIRA), the role of researchers in these assessments, and subsequent emergency and mitigation plans, particularly in low-frequency, high-hazard incidents. He highlighted two recent research studies on low-frequency, high-hazard risks and the mitigation loop currently underway. Want to join this meeting or future meetings?
