DESCRIPTION:US AON Open Collaboration Meeting: Advancing Effective Stewardship for the US Arctic Observing Network  Jun 17, 2025 1 - 3 pm Eastern Daylight Time  Thumbnail Photo Credit: Lisa Hupp/USFWS This meeting is a follow up to the US AON Showcase that was held in conjunction with the Arctic Science Summit Week in Boulder, CO in March of 2025 (report here). The March event aimed to highlight the US Arctic Observing Network (US AON), the roles of US federal agencies, and foster collaboration with non-federal entities, international partners, and Indigenous communities to advance Arctic observing efforts and inform a vision for the next decade of the AON, relevant to the International Conferences on Arctic Research Planning (ICARP) and International Polar Year (IPY) processes.  A centerpiece of the meeting was a visioning session aimed at identifying key facets for the future of US AON stewardship nationally and in the context of broader international initiatives. Top facets identified included: Effective National/International Data Management, Community Liaisons/Coordination Hubs, Establishing and Utilizing Asset Inventories.  In this meeting, we will further our visioning work for the next decade of US AON stewardship with a focus on identifying whitepaper themes and writing teams to inform national and international fora and funding proposal development.
