Finland's Arctic Science Networking Workshop for the Arctic Council Chairmanship

The Finnish Meteorological Institute (FMI) will hold an Arctic Science Networking Workshop from Wednesday the 30th of August to Friday the 1st of September 2017 at the premises of the FMI Headquarters in Helsinki. This Workshop is connected with the Finnish Chairmanship period in the Arctic Council, as meteorological cooperation is one of the four priority themes of the Chairmanship.

The first day of the workshop will be devoted to the five themes through five panel discussions including four keynote speeches each. The five themes are:

  1. Arctic satellite based services and products including Environmental Climate Variables (ECV’s) and Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAV’s): snow, sea ice, permafrost, floods, forest fires, water, overrun on ice, Day-Night Band (DNB)
  2. Operational modeling and application development to meet Arctic requirements
  3. Observations and monitoring in the Arctic
  4. WMO Arctic Regional Climate Center (Arctic RCC)
  5. Adaptation and resilience to climate change and ocean acidification, including Global Cryosphere Watch (GCW)
